MEMORIAL OF ST. POLYCARP, BISHOP AND MARTYR (YEAR I, Cherry-red)

Reading 1 (HEBREWS 11:ane-7)

A reading from the Letter to the Hebrews

Brothers and sisters:
Faith is the realization of what is hoped for
and evidence of things not seen.
Because of it the ancients were well attested.
By faith we empathize that the universe was ordered past the word of God,
so that what is visible came into being through the invisible.
By faith Abel offered to God a sacrifice greater than Cain's.
Through this, he was attested to be righteous,
God bearing witness to his gifts,
and through this, though dead, he still speaks.
Past faith Enoch was taken upward and then that he should not see expiry,
andhe was found no more because God had taken him.
Before he was taken upward, he was attested to have pleased God.
But without faith it is impossible to please him,
for anyone who approaches God must believe that he exists
and that he rewards those who seek him.
By organized religion Noah, warned about what was not all the same seen,
with reverence built an ark for the salvation of his household.
Through this, he condemned the world
and inherited the righteousness that comes through faith.

Gospel (Mark ix:2-xiii)

A reading from the Holy Gospel co-ordinate to Marker

Jesus took Peter, James, and John
and led them up a loftier mountain apart by themselves.
And he was transfigured before them,
and his clothes became dazzling white,
such as no fuller on earth could bleach them.
Then Elijah appeared to them along with Moses,
and they were conversing with Jesus.
And so Peter said to Jesus in reply,
"Rabbi, it is good that we are here!
Let united states make three tents:
one for you, one for Moses, and ane for Elijah."
He hardly knew what to say, they were and then terrified.
Then a cloud came, casting a shadow over them;
and then from the deject came a voice,
"This is my love Son. Listen to him."
Suddenly, looking around, the disciples no longer saw anyone
just Jesus solitary with them.

As they were coming down from the mount,
he charged them not to relate what they had seen to anyone,
except when the Son of Man had risen from the dead.
And so they kept the affair to themselves,
questioning what rise from the dead meant.
Then they asked him,
"Why practice the scribes say that Elijah must come up first?"
He told them, "Elijah volition indeed come start and restore all things,
notwithstanding how is it written regarding the Son of Human being
that he must suffer greatly and be treated with contempt?
But I tell you that Elijah has come
and they did to him whatever they pleased,
as it is written of him."

– The Gospel of the Lord.

Reflection: The First Reading teaches us that faith is not always something that enables u.s. to grasp the material things. Rather, information technology is also something we hope for more chiefly, spiritual things revealed to u.s.a. by God the Father. That's why it is through organized religion that we have understood the meaning events in the Old Testament. It is too the fact how these corking men devote their lives to do good and please the Lord. Abel offered one of the fattest lambs, which God accustomed rather than Cain's offering of fruits, for he has the sincerity of heart upon offering. Noah obeyed the Lord when asked to built an ark for refuge for his family and the animals during the 40 days and nights of the Lord, despite the ridicules he received from the people.
In the Gospel, we hear the Transfiguration story, which is the Fourth Luminous Mystery. It is a lesson on how we view God and go deeper agreement on his greater plan for us. The 3 disciples didn't quite understand what happened to Jesus when he was transfigured on Mount Tabor and when he conversed with Moses (representing the Police force) and Elijah (representing the Prophets). For Moses and Elijah, they betoken out that he is the fulfillment of the Old Testament Law and the Prophets. And earlier, he predicted that he would undergo his Paschal Mystery, his Suffering, Death, and Resurrection. Even when the cloud covered them, they were frightened, specially when they just saw Jesus with them. Then he warned not to tell anyone who he was, until his Resurrection from the dead. For the followers of Jesus, they expected him to be the Messiah who would be crowned rex in Jerusalem and restore State of israel by liberating them from the Roman Empire. But what happened afterward is that they were surprised to see a Messiah carrying a big Cross under the weight of his soldiers traveling to the path of Calvary, and on the hill of Golgotha, he was crucified and after six hours, he died. Three days afterward, he rose from the dead and appeared to more than 500 witnesses. 40 days subsequently, he ascended into heaven and took his seat at the majesty of God the Father. After Pentecost, the Apostles have fully understand what took place when Christ was with them. And then they began to preach in public the greatest programme of God which was fulfilled in Christ, and many were moved by the story and converted to the religion.
